Klarenz Barlow »Variazioni e un pianoforte meccanico« [BTHVN2020]

»Variazioni e un pianoforte meccanico« by Klarenz Barlow

Livestream from ARTrmx in Köln-Ehrenfeld on 04.06.2021
Hosted by Daniel Mennicken

Klarenz Barlow is a pupil of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Bernd Alois Zimmermann and one of the best-known representatives of computer music. His piece couples classical piano playing with a programmed MIDI piano. The more the computer varies the beginning of Beethoven’s last piano sonata op. 111, the more it displaces the human performers, raising questions about interpretation, concert culture and performativity in contemporary and classical music. Internationally renowned pianists from the independent music scene in Cologne are constantly taking up this challenge. We are particularly pleased that the composer Klarenz Barlow will be coming to the concert and will talk to Daniel Mennicken about his work.
